Oboz Aurora

Sometimes a walk leads to a Class 5 climb.

The Aurora is a hiking stalwart: comfortable, breathable, and capable. Upon first step-in, testers noted a “squish” that felt good out of the box, but worried us for trail capability. That worry vanished as the cushioning responded to the rigors of rugged terrain without feeling sloppy, and the aggressively lugged traction gave us confidence going uphill and down (though it felt somewhat slippy on wet rock). Padding around the heel collar and tongue kept our ankles and tops of our feet comfortable, and a flexible mesh upper created a super-plush ride. It’s not the most supportive hiker, but for day hikes on all but the most technical trails, this shoe gets it done. Swami gripe: A little boxy-feeling. Swami like: Robust, comfy upper. 10.2 oz. (women’s only)
