The capable Ultra Endurance lives up to its name on a range of trail surfaces. Stability comes from a firm plastic heel counter and a supportive upper that secures nicely around a variety of feet—narrow, wide, and in between. Some testers felt the shoe lacked flexibility and ran a little heavy, and therefore was more at home hiking or scrambling than running fast. Others enjoyed its supreme foot protection—with a rock plate sandwiched between the midsole and outsole, a closed-mesh upper with welded overlays, and a bomber toe bumper. Swami gripe: The thin tongue is a tad uncomfortable. Swami like: Nicely breathable. 11.4 oz. (men’s), 9.2 oz. (women’s)
