Our testers called the brand new Vantage X 83 CTI “The most versatile ski in the category by a long shot.” It railed racer turns on groomed snow nearly as well as the Völkl and Blizzard featured here, but it’s both lighter and more nimble when you pilot it off the corduroy and into moguls, glades, and edgeable off-trail snow. Much of the credit lies with Atomic’s proven Carbon Tank Mesh. The open weave fiber boosts the ski’s stability at speeds and dampens the ride—without adding excess weight. A smartly placed and highly machined Titanium Backbone further dampens vibration and adds to the dynamic rebound of the ski as you exit turns. We also praised the X 83 for an attribute we call turn shape variability—some skis lock into a single turn shape, others, like the Vantage, let you crank out short swing turns in the fall line, medium arcs on textured corduroy, and sweeping arcs at speed.
Swami gripe: Not as damp as the RTM, but it’s livelier.
Swami like: “It begs to ski the entire mountain,” said a tester. “Super quick AND super stable,” said another.
