Keen Versatrail

Sometimes a walk leads to a Class 5 climb.

The fit of this shoe—wide and long for its size—confused us at first. But once we got the right testers in them, it was game-on. They were comfortable on day hikes up dry, rocky, steep trails. Testers also enjoyed them on longer rambles along rolling mountain terrain. That said, the cushioning and insole felt “kinda flat,” said one tester. But the Versatrail offers ample sidewall protection from rocks with overlays and webbing on the upper, while still remaining breathable and ready for summer. One-pull laces with shock cord snug the shoes up quickly and easily. Swami gripe: Traction wasn’t stellar; they’re not as grippy as others in this test. Swami like: They’re treated for odor control. 11.6 oz. (men’s), 9.6 (women’s)
