Lee Cohen’s shot of Kenjiro Matsuo made the cover of our Early Winter 2012 issue (hitting newsstands and subscriber mailboxes this week). The photo was captured at Alta, Utah; Cohen’s home since he left New York three decades ago. A stalwart Mountain magazine contributor who most recently shot two features in our Summer 2012 issue, we caught up with Cohen to briefly talk about the cover shot—along with other ravings.
It was just one of those perfect Alta powder mornings. We knew if we got our butts out the door early and got to our go-to spots, we’d get something of this quality.
The skier is a friend who was visiting from Japan. He was staying at a buddy’s house, tagged along, and we had a really productive day.
If you’re an Altaholic, you’re living to ski deep powder. You can’t get enough of it. You can’t say no to another face shot.
Powder at Alta is dreamy. It’s great oneness. It’s easy to get lost and find your Zen moment and make it last longer—perpetualize your Zen moment. —Olivia Dwyer
