“The Legend” turns 70 this winter, and the celebration will include lift ticket and lesson deals, custom A-Basin skis by Colorado ski maker Icelantic, and a December birthday bash. “We do food and parties really well,” says the Basin’s Adrienne Saia Isaac. Aiding the festivities: $1.2 million-worth of improvements to the base area.

Can’t-Miss Run: Lap the Pallavicini Chair for steep, backcountry-style tree shots though The Alleys. During a lull between storms, mine leftover soft snow on the east face of 13 Cornices.

Resort Bite: Snowsports instructor Keagan French preps for lessons with a fat breakfast burrito from The Legends Cafe. As a patron, you can add the bacon Bloody Mary from 6th Alley Bar and Grill.

Stay an Extra Day: If favorable snowpack and weather align, consider one of the prominent backcountry lines visible from the resort. The Professor, accessed via a 15-minute traverse from the top of Loveland Pass, finishes near the parking lot. Apex Guides offers guided ski touring in Summit County: apexguides.com.  —Matt McDonald
