Overview: Steamboat Colorado, AKA, Ski Town, U.S.A., in the heart of the Yampa Valley, is unique among Colorado resorts. For starters, it’s hard to find a more authentic Western style town—the rodeo comes each summer. And it doesn’t ski like other Colorado resorts either. Here, the wind doesn’t destroy the powder, and the tree skiing is some of the best in the state. Walk downtown and you’ll still encounter local ranchers in Stetson hats.
What’s New: This season, Steamboat rolls out an on-mountain food snowcat called the Taco Beast to deliver the food truck experience slopeside. Look for carne asada and al pastor tacos, breakfast burritos, and Mexican style beer.
Local’s Take: On a powder day, alpine coach, Ben Brown, says to head to Pony Express where you’ll find great lines in and out of the trees and “powder a couple of days after the storm.” steamboat.com —Sarah Peruzzi
