Salomon X-Scream

trail-test-2014-salomon-x-scream

Tired of road running but not quite ready to scramble over scree all day? The X-Scream lives in between. We’re longtime fans of Salomon’s OS Tendon technology (it’s a stringer), which maximizes energy return to aid forward motion. But in this shoe there’s also ample EVA cushioning and a 9mm drop—great for traditional gaits. We favor it for everyday runs in the 5–10K range that couple concrete and trail. Tester’s take: “I loved the quick-laces for quick exits.” Swami gripe: Testers found the toe box a little too long and a little too wide. Swami like: Smart trail features—durable toe rand, angled lugs that climb and brake. 8.5 oz.; $110
