Sunday River can’t boast about natural snowfall, but it compensates. For one, it’s yuuuge—eight mountain peaks with 135 trails. And a whopping 90 percent of that terrain is within reach of the resort’s 2,000 snow guns. Plus, the mountain just invested in more snowmaking, so you’re not at the mercy of El Niño or La Niña or any other stingy brat.
Can’t-Miss Run: Anything off Jordan Bowl, the most remote of Sunday River’s peaks, whether it’s the fall line bliss of Caramba!, the wide glades of Blind Ambition, or the cruiser Lollapalooza.
Resort Bite: Two words: food trucks. Maine-ly Meatballs is parked at the base of Jordan Bowl, and The SaltBox Café—Maine’s only tiny house food truck—is stationed at South Ridge.
Local Advice: When the real snow piles up, head straight for White Heat and Obsession, off White Cap Peak. “They’re the steepest trails, and you can keep your speed up,” says U.S. Ski Team Assistant Coach Parker Gray, a lifelong Sunday River skier. —Kirk Kardashian
