As the tallest mountain for miles around, Sugarloaf strikes a pretty impressive pose in the Carrabassett Valley. Now, with a massive makeover underway, the ’Loaf will soon look even prettier to New England skiers. Called Sugarloaf 2020, the overhaul already brought 500-plus acres of glades, the opening of Burnt Mountain, and a new Village that’s turned shabby into chic.
Can’t-Miss Run: Bubblecuffer, one of the resort’s original trails cut in the 1960s that offers a grab bag of bumps, steeps, and when the Snowfields are open, powder. Or race down the World Cup trail on Narrow Gauge.
Resort Bite: Grab a burger at The Bag and Kettle; longtime Loafer and Racing and Team Manager for HEAD, Ben Drummond swears by The Gucci, a pepperoni-laced cheeseburger.
Local Advice: Even with the fancy expansion, the Snowfields reign supreme at Sugarloaf. Look for Mount Katahdin, the endpoint of the Appalachian Trail, from the summit here. —Sarah Tuff Dunn
