Over the past few seasons, Breckenridge laid the groundwork for this, its 50th anniversary, by opening luxury lodging at One Ski Hill Place, a winter and summer alpine coaster, a new 22-foot superpipe, and evermore above-treeline skiing. This winter's celebratory schedule is dotted with festivals and freeskiing competitions. All that and weather patterns indicate another big season for Breck. If you're planning a trip, be sure to grab a front row seat at the terrain park to watch the local talent-including a crew of X Games competitors-session their home mountain. "These kids are just phenomenal," says Greg King, a local skier. "It's great to see it live."
