The parade happens in Breckenridge, Colorado, this coming Monday, July 4th. And it’s the best parade in the USA because for the past 16 years more than 700 mountain bike racers (some from far flung locales) lead the procession down the town’s main drag before setting out to race half a century on a fantastic amalgamation of Colorado double and singletrack. The race is the famed Firecracker 50, and it may well be the first, and it’s almost certainly the longest running, off road 50 miler in the country.
In the High Summer issue of Mountain magazine (look for it in July), we’re celebrating Mountain Towns for Mountain Biking. In it, you’ll learn about the Firecracker—and the many 50 milers around the country that have grown up in its likeness. Better still? If you’re in Colorado this weekend, there are 35 spots remaining for the Firecracker 50. We hope to see you there. Check it out at mavsports.com
