Hoka One One Rapa Nui 2 / Kailua

Other companies have since developed max cushion shoes, but our results confirm Hoka’s recipe performs best on trail. A proprietary blend of EVA supplies 2.5 times the midsole volume without adding noticeable weight. The extra buffer works best for high-mileage athletes and those with nagging injuries. Or fearless speedsters who barrel downhill—all that foam swallows rocks and negates impact forces. This year, a narrower heel increases dexterity, and lower stack heights (26mm heel; 21mm toe) boost stability. Tester’s take: “The mother of all cushioned rides.” Swami gripe: Adjustment period required for first-timers. Swami like: Sticker shock be gone—meet the first Hokas at less than $150. 10.8 oz; $130

My first pair of Hoka One One were the Stinsons…actually I went through two pairs before I discovered how much I love the Kailuas! Not as bulky, more nimble, but with all the protection and comfort.
