LuvByrd—an online dating website for Colorado’s outdoor enthusiasts—is coming to Loveland Ski Area.
At least since stretch pants went out of vogue, a ski resort isn’t necessarily the first place you’d think of when it comes to picking someone up—what with everyone wearing facemasks. Nevertheless, LuvByrd—an online dating website for Colorado outdoor enthusiasts—is trying to change that. Mike Keshian, the founder of the site launched in 2014, is a self-proclaimed ski bum turned cupid. He saw a market for a website that could help coordinate love among fellow mountain-minded folk and went about making it happen (for those not in the state, expansion plans are in the works). You sign up by uploading a photo, noting your name, age, and location, and ticking off boxes, like the resorts you ski/snowboard at, your ability level, and a myriad of other outdoor activities you enjoy. Meet-ups aren’t an integral part of the brand—yet—but this weekend, on February 6, LuvByrd will host its first chairlift speed-dating extravaganza.
Discounted lift tickets are available for $45 exclusively through LuvByrd’s event page and will include live music, free beer from Boulder’s Upslope Brewery, and treats from Steamboat’s Honey Stinger. If you already have a lift ticket, it’s free to attend. How it’ll work: singles will be paired according to age and gender, after which they’ll ride the lift together with the option to ski a few runs if they hit it off. If not, head for the bottom to try again. Every time you ride up, you get a raffle ticket and the opportunity to win prizes, such as a pair of Spy goggles, Phunkshun face masks, a pair of Icelantic Pioneer skis, or a Never Summer Swift powder board.
Either way, you’ll get in a full ski day at one of our favorite ski areas, with some heady craft beer and the opportunity to win sweet prizes as a bonus. At best, you’ll find a date for Valentine’s Day and who knows, maybe a chairlift partner for life. —Kiran Herbert | Photo Dave Cox
