Alaska Mountain Guides offers lift-accessed sidecountry tours out the gates of Alta, or straight-up backcountry trips in the surrounding Wasatch that include more uphill travel. Expect to tour in Grizzly Gulch, where you'll find everything from low-angle, north-facing powder fields to 35-degree chutes. You'll need to be in pretty good shape to keep up with most groups. "We recommend our trips for someone who exercises three days a week and can run five miles," says guide Eli Fierer. "But even if someone's not at that level, we can accommodate them."
