Altra The Olympus

trail-test-2014-altra-olympus

Here you get the benefits of barefoot running with the perks of cushioning. Altra’s signature foot-shaped last allows for natural toe splay to improve shock absorption, while zero drop creates better body alignment. The cush factor comes into play with a new dual layer of EVA foam. And while the Olympus is not as forgiving as a Hoka, ultra racers or zero-drop runners who want to minimize fatigue still benefit. Tester’s take: “Extreme cushioning makes a long run feel like bouncing on the bed.” Swami gripe: The minimal tread failed us on slick surfaces. Swami like: Feels barefoot—but with protection. 11 oz; $130

The altra Olympus shoe is a very good running shoe. I wore my pair for the last 22 mile ofntth SD100. I would have loved to wear them for the entire race the tracking is just not conducive technical tracks that require traction. The foot shape toebox is great and the cushioning also good. Personally, I would add increase the shoe cushion just a little. Fix the traction and add cushining and you just may run Hokas out town. ☺
